Wedding | Ren & Tiffany

Sunday, March 30, 2008

This Saturday I joined Jennifer Hosler of Candid Moments Weddings to document Ren & Tiffany's day.   The hardest part about being second shooter for another photographer is that the initial connection between me and the couple doesn't happen until the day of.  I'll usually get a brief summary of who they are beforehand, and sometimes a gist of their life story.  While I was able to gather bits and pieces of their story, personality here and there, I found the two share something really special and truly deserve one another. They now share three sons (Tiffany has one son and Ren has two), and as Tiffany put it she, "wouldn't have it any other way."

On the contrary, being second shooter also has its perks.  We get to capture details and moments primary photographers aren't able to catch. A few of my faves from the day.

The gorgeous bride..

some lovely detail..
gorgeous!

just before this shot Ren referred to himself as "Renzel Washington".
I think Denzel's got some worrying to do.  Watch out ladies!

leather crocs never looked so good....
The boys give a little jump for joy.

now for some yummy detail...

the cake smelled so sugary sweet I was tempted to dip my face into it. lol.

Friendship | Paula & Nelson

Saturday, March 15, 2008

They were on campus one day each hanging with their own set of friends. She heard him laughing and said to her friend, "I'm going to marry that guy." And, marry him she did. They've been married quite some time now and still have that, how do you say in French? Oh yes, that je no se quoi

They are also very good friends of mine. If someone told me five years ago that I'd be hanging out with these two I would have said, "absolutely no way. They're crazy!" Craziness aside, do you know what I admire about this couple? They are always down to feed, lodge and help a friend in need, they give you the advice you NEED to hear not WANT to hear, you never have to call weeks in advance to stop by and visit, and they share the same wicked sense of humor. Oh, and if you ever find yourself in their living room, be prepared to have the best damn cup of Bustelo coffee in town!

To show you just how tight a bond Paula and Nelson really do share, here are a few of my favorites from our shoot this afternoon.

I could get used to this backlighting business.

Paula did some modeling back in N.Y. and knew exactly what to do.  My job was easy!

I know Nelson's eyes are closed on this one, but something tells me Paula will enjoy this one very much.
I turn around after switching lenses to find Paula leg-pressing Nelson!

Personal | Tag, I'm it.

Monday, March 10, 2008

Tag I'm it.
I was tagged by an old classmate/buddy-o-pal of mine from design school at The Academy. Thanks to Amerie Pangalayan of Portland, OR. *hi Amerie*. These are silly, but you'll never know what you'll learn about someone. I've been asked to reveal 8 things about myself. Okay, here goes nothin...

1. I love going for loooong drives, alone. Yes, that's right - alone. I'll gear up early in the AM with my ipod, s'munchies, cigarettes (I'm trying to cut back). I don't ever do anything when I get there. I happen to enjoy the journey more than the destination. Places I've been known to travel to on a whim: St. Helena/Napa, Pescadero, Tiburon-Marin area, Santa Cruz, Monterey, Morro Bay, Pt. Reyes/Bodega Bay.

2. No good shenanigans is my middle name. I am known for practical jokes. My friends and I light years ago, would pull these pranks making jerky, heinous phone calls to local businesses. We often asked random and offensively inappropriate questions (some were neither here nor there)....very childish and immature.

3. Until recently I had the hardest time being able to sit down and watch television. I can't sit still without being distracted or bored (putting me to work in front of a computer for 12 hours is another story though). Because I'm now self-employed, I have made it a point to take my breaks in front of the tube. My favorite shows now are: Ugly Betty, Destination Truth, Ghost Hunters, Paranormal State, and shamefully old reruns of 90210.

4. I love, Love, LOVE foreign films, especially French flicks. My recent faves are: Pas sur la bouche, L'Auberge Espagnole, Dieu Est Grand, Je Suis Toute Petite, Happenstance, Turtles Can Fly, and the list goes on and on.

5. I was a nerd growing up. I played the piano, flute and piccolo for nine years, was in choir for four years and traded it all in so I wouldn't be labelled a band nerd. I was County and State Spelling Bee champion grades 4-6 and 7-8 (almost making it to nationals my last year), was in AP classes throughout, was a straight A student every year until my Sophomore year in High School - when I discovered boys, cigarettes and all the pressures of trying to be part of the cool crowd.

6. I come from a very artistic family. My father was a photographer in the Philippines and is a retired comic book artist/illustrator, I have quite a few cousins who are also comic book artists and in the game art field, and my brother who studied architecture.

7. When iTunes released the complete Led Zeppelin I almost s**t myself. They are my absolute all time favorite band. I've been rockin out to LZ since Jr. High. Me thinks Robert Plant has the sexiest damn voice in rock history, and if you ever see a stormcloud colored ScionXB speeding like a demon at 100 mph, that's because I've got them blaring on my system.

8. My favorite all-time movie is Steel Magnolias. I know almost every bit of dialog verbatim. I worked with someone who knew just as much about the movie as I did, and we publicly duked it out in front of our colleagues in a trivial game of "Steel Magnolias Smack Down." I won and whooped some serious butt!

Engagement | Kristi & Eric

Sunday, March 9, 2008

It is very rare that the weather in San Francisco is good to us. It is also very rare that I get to second shoot for kick-ass photographers like Jennifer Hosler of Candid Moments Weddings (like I did for this this engagement session). However it is not all too uncommon to meet good people like Kristi and Eric. The two are happily engaged and are expected to tie the knot on June 7, where I join Jennifer Hosler once again to capture the couple's special day. The images below were taken at Baker Beach in San Francisco. However be warned, that Baker Beach does have a designated "nudity optional" area. If you ever do decide to take a visit in the AM, be prepared.

Again, I can't tell you how excited I am to take part in capturing this couple's special day. Just look at how crazy in love these two are!

My favorite from this session in b+w & in color!

a little "flare" while the couple hams it up for Jennifer

Isn't Kristi stunning?

A close up of the handsome couple. I'm not going to say it, but can you guess which celebrity Eric looks like in this image? (hint: rhymes with Ten Catholics)

Clients | Rachael Alison & Baby Isabella

Sunday, March 2, 2008

When I learned I'd be working with Rachael this weekend, I honestly didn't know what to expect. We instantly clicked when we met on the day of our shoot and as you'll see she is a total knockout. Sorry fellas, she's spoken for AND she is the mother of a beautiful four month-old baby girl named Isabella. This woman is nothing short of amazing. She is charismatic, amiable, witty, is full of fresh ideas and exudes a wonderful, positive energy. In my opinion, she is a J-Lo in person, a Katie Hudson on film and somewhere in between is a young, sexy Ellen Barkin! I tell you, this girl is cursed. LOL.

The sun was G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S out this weekend - the photos here were shot in my dining room using only available natural light. I felt our photo session went smoothly and the only hard part about it all was picking out my favorite photos for this post. And, while I'm not at much liberty to share ALL my favorites, here are just a few I can. Have a look-sy:

this one is my absolute favorite
I see a little Katie Hudson in this one, don't you?
*sassy lashes*

baby Isabella in ALL her glory...

look at those eyes!
