Clients | Mike + Rhea

Saturday, April 19, 2008

They are the quintessential urbanites living the city life, in a cozy abode amidst a busy city of cement blocks, crammed car trains and treacherous hills...yet through the hustle and bustle of city life in San Francisco, they are still themselves: a woman reformed from her rebellious punk years and a good old wholesome boy next door from the Midwest. They are Mike and Rhea, whom I consider both to be good people and good friends. I knew Rhea when I worked at the Art Institute. She was my handy and trusty assistant, and let's face it, she really did run the place...quite efficiently too!

Our shoot Saturday was a long wait in the making, and the wait was quite worth it. Here you'll find two people in love with a very promising future together.

Mike bought Rhea a guitar for her birthday - a wise investment because Rhea plays beautifully.

This guitar just screams Rhea.

I am so honored to be the only other person besides Mike to EVER hear Rhea perform.

The couple takes a break to lounge on the couch.

but, nothing says "lounging" like kicking your feet up!

Mike + Rhea have two cats, Ash and Bender. Ash joined us to be part of the shoot too!

My favorite shot of the day!

Bender is SUCH a mama's boy!

...meanwhile Ash is daddy's little girl!

Mike+Rhea suggested we walk up to a park nearby. San Francisco's hills are treacherous, but as soon as our walk uphill was over, I knew it was all worth it as soon as I saw this green door, which by the way gave Mike+Rhea good luck, as you see...

I asked the two if they knew of any tricks. As it turns out Mike is a fantastic juggler!

Mike is a creative at Lucas Arts. He is truly a man of many talents...not a single ball dropped!!!

Hip, hip hooray!!!!

Mike+Rhea, thank you so much for your friendship and for being patient and open to my ideas for this shoot!! I wish you BOTH well in your future together.

Clients | Brianne & Shannon - BFFs breaking tradition

Monday, April 14, 2008

I love the idea that one day two friends decide that THEY TOO want their pictures taken. Together. Why not? Portrait photography is for everyone and these days anything goes. I say kudos to the girls for breaking the tradition of photographic opportunity.  Because photography isn't just for brides and grooms and couples and families and pets.....it's for friends, too!

The weather was absolutely GORGEOUS in the Bay Area this weekend.  So the girls and I trekked toward the coast via a 2006 Stormcloud ScionXB courtesy of yours truly to my secret hiding spot.  I love that this area is so secluded and unless you're looking for it you would never know it was there. So unless you're willing to fork out the dough, I'm not telling! *lol*   My two goals were to capture the essence and personality of the two while playing around colorful backdrops. I'd say it worked out quite successfully. I'd like to extend a huge "thank you" to Brianne and Shannon for being patient and allowing me to zip here and there everywhere during our shoot. To fun and friendship!!!!

My faves!
LtoR: Bri looking fresh and radiant; Bri loses it and tries her best to keep a serious face...

Shannon looks cool and mysterious...this girl really is tall enough to be a model!!

the many faces of Shannon: seductive, silly and sweet...

Next stop: the girls and I head to a local greenhouse filled with beautiful bromiliads. I'm a fan of this place and one day when I meet the right man I want to get married here. It is so beautiful and mystical and absolutely quaint. It gives true meaning to a "garden wedding"....In fact, there is a ceremony and reception area which is perfect for a small wedding.....now, if I can only find that perfect man....*sigh*

Brianne becomes one with the earth...I found the remnants of a plant lying on the floor of the greenhouse. She was such a great sport for allowing me to plant it on her head...pun intended....

the girls take a break while I play paparazzi. Look at those wedges!!

final stop, a local taqueria....the colors and Brianne's dress may have inspired my next trip to Mexico....

Wedding | Lauren+John (part 1)

And...once again I join the wonderful Jennifer Hosler of Candid Moments Weddings this weekend to take part of the celebration of a whirlwind tale between two high school sweethearts, Lauren + John. You couldn't have asked for a more good looking pair, an officer in the Marine Corps. and a former Raiderette. The wedding took place at Ruby Hill Golf Club, which exists in a gorgeous community hidden between the most beautiful country canyons and romantic vineyards of Pleasanton, CA. I was fourth shooter, as there were not one, not two, not three, but FOUR photographers (including myself) at Lauren + John's big day. Jennifer and the other gals spent their time between the bride and groom, while I snapped away from the sidelines. I decided to approach the wedding from a storyteller's perspective, rather than focus on the obvious portraits. Besides, I could afford to as there was more than enough coverage from all angles. I had the luxury of taking my time to capture the candid moments and details in between, which I absolutely love. These photos are a part 1 series of Lauren + John's big day, leading up to the cocktail party. Check for more as I will be posting images from the reception.

A few of my faves:
Starting with the bride....my favorite...a closeup....

Lauren touches up before entering her dress...

the small details that really do matter...

The brides maids entertain Lauren from the sidelines....is it me or is she glowing?

Simply stunning. Can you believe those eyes?

the reception area was riddled with icy detail

The bridesmaids strike a pose...

meanwhile, the groom anxiously awaits while entertaining the guests...

the flower girls are darling...one day they will make beautiful brides, too!

minutes before the ceremony: a family member explains what a "toast" is to the flower girls; the bridesmaids make a toast to celebrate a friend's last hour as a single woman....

the ceremony was quite short....left to right: the bridesmaids gossip amongst themselves; Lauren is smitten by her handsome groom; the groom's men stand at attention.

the handsome new couple get their portrait taken with the father of the bride...

and so the reception begins....

the newlywed couple backlit against the gorgeous valleys and yummy, golden sun!

Remember to stay tuned! I've got more coming from the reception!!!!
